Last updated March 1, 2021

Are you trying to up your game at work? Or perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed and aren't sure what to do next? Check out this video for strategies on how to put your best foot forward at work.

During a lull at work

Ask a co-worker with more experience for advice on how to handle a task you’re struggling with.

Don’t let deadlines slip by.

If you’re worried you don’t know how to complete a task, or won’t finish in time, immediately let your co-workers and supervisors know. They’ll help come up with a plan.

Use email

If asking for help in-person makes you feel awkward or nervous, email your supervisor to ask for a meeting to discuss the challenges you’re having. Keep it formal. Here's how to send a professional email

Ask for clarification.

If you don’t understand how to complete a task, but try to do it anyway, you’ll likely end up in a worse place than when you started. Don’t be afraid to ask your boss to walk you through the task again.

Take notes!

Whenever you ask for help, write down the information you’re getting so you don’t have to ask twice!

Sharpen your skills at home.

If there is something you don’t know – like maybe Excel, or something you want to get better at – like customer service skills, get online at home and take one of the great, free tutorials. You will demonstrate initiative and getting that extra skill, may even put you in line for a promotion or pay bump! Here's how to get started.
