Last updated August 17, 2023
Have you ever wondered about apprenticeships and what they can offer? We'll dive into the world of apprenticeships, exploring their benefits and how you can find exciting opportunities in various high-demand industries!
What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a career pathway that allows someone to gain on-the-job training, paid work experience, classroom instruction, and a nationally-recognized credential within their industry. It’s a great way to learn and get paid! Since an apprenticeship is a job, your employer will pay you while you work and gain skills and mentorship in the field that interests you. The skills you learn can prepare you for a successful career, and you will receive a credential or earn academic credit towards a college degree, while avoiding student debt.
How do I find an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships can last from one to four years, with many programs being one or two years. If you are interested in becoming an apprentice, you can look for an opportunity through Apprenticeship Finder and apply through a link there. Feel free to also contact the employers or program sponsors for more information about their apprenticeship opportunities.
What are the benefits to an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeship programs can open doors to hundreds of occupations, and are pathways to stable, well-paid, in-demand careers! The average starting wage for an apprentice is $15.00 per hour and increases as an apprentice gains more skills. 94% of apprentices who complete an apprenticeship retain employment and the average starting salary after completing an apprenticeship program is $70,000. Compared to peers who don’t complete an apprenticeship program, apprentice graduates earn $300,000 more over their lifetime.
