College Diversity Fly-In Programs: What You Need to Know
Last updated October 24, 2023
Did you know that some colleges and universities across the country offer programs that give students an opportunity to travel to and tour them for a few days for free? These programs, called diversity fly-in programs, aim to make the college touring process more accessible for low-income, first-generation, and minority students. Here’s what you need to know about diversity fly-in programs and where to find them!
What are diversity fly-in programs?
Diversity fly-in programs make intentional space for low-income, first-generation, and minority high school students to explore their college options. These programs offer both prospective and admitted students all-expenses-paid tours of their campuses to get a feel for the college experience. They’re typically held in the spring and summer of a student's junior year or in the fall of their senior year.
What’s their purpose?
These programs offer many things to prospective students! On a college trip through a diversity fly-in program, students can learn more about a school’s student experience, ask questions to current students and faculty, explore majors and academic programs, and gain a deeper understanding of what they do and don’t want from the college they end up attending.
Who can apply?
While eligibility requirements will vary by school and program, they are usually designed primarily for first-generation, low-income, and minority students.
