Five Important Reasons Why You Should Join A High School Club

Whether you want to boost your college applications or just have fun with your peers, there are many benefits to joining a club in high school. Here are five important reasons you should join a high school club!

Make friends

Joining a club or organization is an easy way to meet people who have the same interests as you! What better way to spark a new friendship than to talk about something you both know and enjoy? Because you have interests in common, you can feel more comfortable to really be yourself!

Strengthen your college applications

When you work on your college applications, it’s important to show different parts of your personality and interests to give admissions committees a more complete picture of who you are and what makes you unique! Colleges love to know what students are interested in outside of the classroom, and experience in clubs can help you tell a story about yourself that your test scores and transcripts can’t!

Develop skills

Clubs can help you develop personal and professional skills that last a lifetime! No matter what type of club you’re in, being part of a group can help you grow and strengthen skills like leadership, communication, the ability to work as a team, and so many more. Not only are you having fun, you’re improving in the process!

Network

When you make a new academic, personal or professional connection with someone, they become a part of your network. Down the road, when you’re looking for new professional opportunities, your network can help! For example, if you bond with a club member over your love of coding, you can stay in touch with them, and in the future, if they come across a coding job or internship that they think you’d be good at, they can send it to you. You can also do the same for your network! You never know who you’ll meet or what opportunities arise!

Build your resume

Whether you’re applying to college or for jobs, having a strong student resume is important. Your resume is a place to list all of your academic, extracurricular, and professional experiences and achievements, so your experience in student clubs would fit in nicely on it! Including club experience can also help you bond with potential employers and people in your network over a shared interest!
