When Is Your FAFSA Due?
Last updated October 12, 2023
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2024-2025 academic year opens in December and will be available until June 30th, 2024. However, deadlines can depend on the state you live in or the college(s) you applied to. In general, most federal, state, and institutional aid programs operate on a first-come, first-serve basis - which means that the earlier you apply, the better chance you’ll have of securing aid.
Please note that some colleges may have their own specific FAFSA deadlines, so be sure to check in with each school you applied to about when you must have your FAFSA submitted. Keep in mind – most deadlines are to access state specific grants and scholarships. You can still file your FAFSA even if a deadline has passed.
