Scholarships are a great way to pay for college! If you are going to college in Texas we have compiled a great list of scholarships you may be eligible for (and don’t have to pay back!). Some of these scholarships require a separate application while others only ask you to file the FAFSA or TASFA so make sure to get that done ASAP! Need help? This scholarship is funded by the Terry Foundation but awarded through multiple colleges and universities in Texas. Click here for the full list of schools that partner with the Terry Foundation to award scholarships. Students are only eligible if they graduated high school in Texas.

National CPR Foundation Healthcare and Education Scholarship Program // National CPR Foundation

Incoming and current college students who are at least 18 years of age and have a minimum GPA of 2.8 are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applicants must be currently or planning to be enrolled in school majoring in a healthcare or education-related field. Applicants must submit a 500- to 750-word essay describing what motivates them in their career aspirations, and why they want to pursue or are currently studying for a healthcare or education-related degree.
C.I.P. Scholarship // College is Power

Students ages 17 years or older who plan to start a program of higher education within the next 12 months or who are currently enrolled in a program of higher education are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applicants must be citizens or residents of the U.S. and write a 150-word statement answering the following prompt: "What is your primary goal for going to school?"
Fifth Month Scholarship // Unigo

This scholarship is open to U.S. citizens and residents 14 years or older. Applicants must submit a maximum 250-word essay answering the following prompt: "May is the fifth month of the year. Write a letter to the number five explaining why five is important. Be serious or be funny. Either way, here's a high five to you for being original."

This scholarship is open to incoming and current undergraduate students in the U.S. during the fall 2023 quarter/semester. Applicants must be 16 years old and submit an essay answering the following prompt: “How have you exhibited a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, or social justice through work, service, or other extra-curricular activities, and how will your education help you continue this commitment during college and beyond?”
AISES Apple Scholarship Program // AISES

This scholarship is available to Indigenous college students in the U.S. studying in a STEM field. Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and higher. Applicants must be a current AISES member at time of application.

This scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate and graduate students who will be attending college through the fall. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicants must submit an essay on a given topic related to distracted driving.

This scholarship is for undergraduate BIPOC women at the University of Texas at Dallas who are pursuing careers in the STEM field. To apply, write about your career goals after college and how you plan to achieve them.

Applicants must submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words that answers the following prompt: “What degree are you pursuing and why? What are you planning to do with your degree to pay it forward and positively impact people’s lives? Describe your goals and your ideal journey to making a difference.”
Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship // Horatio Alger Association

This scholarship is designed specifically for students who are enrolled in an associate’s degree, certificate, or diploma program by September 2023. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and demonstrate financial need.
Southwestern Regional Scholarship // Korean American Scholarship Foundation

Deadline: June 30, 2023
Full-time students who are of Korean descent are eligible for this scholarship. Students must be enrolled at a college or university in one of the designated Southwestern region states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas) during the 2022-2023 school year. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and can demonstrate need for financial assistance.
Novus Biologicals Scholarship Program // Novus Biologicals

This scholarship is open to students worldwide enrolled or accepted for enrollment in undergraduate or graduate studies with a declared major in a science related field. Applicants must submit a personal statement and a statement on what they believe is the biggest hurdle for people working in their specific field of interest and why.
Semper Solaris Scholarship // Semper Solaris

High school applicants must be seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be enrolled full-time at an accredited high school between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. Proof of enrollment must be submitted. High school applicants must write a 750-word essay answering the following question: “How do you see solar power changing our country in the future?”
Hearts for Community Scholarship // Warrick Dunn Charities

This scholarship program provides awards to support students who are active volunteers in their community and are attending or will soon attend a two-year college, four-year college, or trade school. Two letters of recommendation showing proof of volunteer experience and a 500-word essay required.
Rodeo Enthusiast Scholarship // Rodeo Ticket

This scholarship is available to students who either grew up going to rodeos or went to one for the first time as an adult. Applicants must write a 700-1,500 word essay about the experience. Must include a photo of yourself with your essay submission. Scholarship available to students in all 50 states.

This scholarship is available to high school seniors and college students who are currently studying or planning to study at a beauty or cosmetology school. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible. All U.S. residents and DACA recipients are eligible to apply.

This scholarship will be awarded “to a caring individual who demonstrates their love for animals and a commitment to increasing animal welfare.” Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 and higher, and must write a 750 word essay that answers the following prompt: “Discuss your relationship with a rescue animal or volunteer animal organization and how it has impacted your life. This scholarship is open to students of Hispanic/Latino heritage who plan to enroll in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States with at least a 2.5 GPA. Applicants must reside in Texas, but U.S. citizenship is not required.
Think For Yourself Essay Contest // Let Grow

This scholarship is open to high school juniors and seniors who are U.S. residents. Applicants must enroll no later than the fall of 2026 in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education and must submit an essay on one of five prompts related to free speech, bullying, disagreements, or other personal questions.
Maximum Independence Scholarship // Goodwill Industries of Southwest Oklahoma & North Texas, Inc

This scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors in Archer, Baylor, Clay, Wichita, and Wilbarger counties. Applicants must have a documented 15 hours of community service during their senior year of high school and have a documented disability or a demonstrated financial need.

Susan Howard Community Service Award // British American Foundation of Texas

Available to low-income students in Texas who have "demonstrated initiative and leadership skills through their dedication to benefitting their community.” Applicants must be working on a community service project or have done so within the past 12 months. Must be able to attend an award reception in Houston in April 2021 if chosen.
British American Foundation of Texas Undergrad Scholarship // BAFTX

If you are a Texas resident with a 3.25+ GPA who plans to major in STEM or Business, you are able to apply for this scholarship. Preference will be given to students who have completed the FAFSA. Must be able to attend an award reception in Houston in April 2021 if chosen.
Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation Scholarship // The Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation

This scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and individuals entering their freshman year of college during the 2023-2024 academic year. Applicants must have at least a 3.7 GPA and demonstrate outstanding personal achievements, academic merit, leadership qualities and/or community service. Special consideration will be noted for applicants who have parents who are U.S. veterans or currently in the U.S. military, students with financial need, first generation college students, and students with a documented significant disability.

To be considered for these scholarships, applicants must be African-American high school seniors with plans to pursue a degree in STEM. Must demonstrate financial need and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and higher. Must submit two letters of recommendation, resume, and an essay.

High school seniors who are disabled are eligible for this renewable scholarship. Must be planning to major in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, law, business, or a related field. Must have a cumulative high school GPA of over 2.5.

This scholarship is available to Latinx high school seniors who need assistance paying for college. Must be planning to study Engineering, Computer Science, or Business in college. Must have a high school GPA of 3.0 and higher. DACA recipients are eligible to apply.

This scholarship is available to high school seniors and college students who are studying or plan to study in fields related to engineering (see scholarship listing for more information). Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Truman D. Picard Scholarship // Intertribal Timber Council

This scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate and graduate students who are Native American and pursuing a higher education in Natural Resources. Must submit an application form, transcripts, a resume, three letters of recommendation, and proof of tribal enrollment.

This scholarship is available to high school seniors and students currently enrolled at any college, university or trade school. Must have above a 2.5 GPA and be a U.S. citizen. Applicants must submit a project based on individual talent (writing, singing, video, etc.). Be sure to note that you have financial need on your application (if applicable), as that is heavily considered.

This scholarship is available to minority high school seniors and college students who are studying or plan to study in fields related to chemistry. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
AWM Scholarship // Austin Alliance for Women in Media
Amount: $5,000
Deadline: March 1, 2023
This scholarship is available to students who have completed 45+ hours of college coursework by December 2022. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher, and must be enrolled as a full-time college student with a declared major in radio, television, film, journalism, etc. and intend to pursue a career in media.

Applicants must “demonstrate positive-impact involvement consistent with capacity and circumstances and/or significant improvement/success in scholarship and community involvement.” Must submit 3 letters of recommendation, transcript, FAFSA, and EFC to be considered.
The Southwest Airlines Scholarship // Silicon Valley Community Foundation

This scholarship is available to students at trade/vocational schools and 2- and 4-year colleges and universities. Applicants must express interest in a career in the airline industry. Special consideration is given to applicants who identify as black, Indigenous, or people of color (BIPOC), are first-generation college students, and are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant.
Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarships // Texas 4-H Foundation

This scholarship is available to active members of the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program for the current year AND at least two of the three previous years, for a minimum of three years of participation. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and residents of Texas.
Valero Minority Engineering Summit // Valero
Amount: $1,500
Deadline: February 15, 2023
Valero's Minority Engineering Summit, which includes a $1,500 education scholarship, is intended for minority college freshmen who are majoring in engineering. Participants are invited to a four-day experience at Valero Headquarters in San Antonio.

This scholarship is open to students in kindergarten through graduate school (ages 5-25) who have demonstrated ongoing commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States within the last 12 months.

This scholarship is open to Texas high school students grades 9-12. Applicants must submit a video that portrays positive ways Texas can help keep our air clean, keep our water clean, conserve water, save energy, or reduce waste.
“You Can’t Label People, but You Can Label Products Scholarship” // Sttark

This scholarship is open to high school seniors and current undergraduate and graduate students who are U.S. citizens. Applicants must submit a 1,000-word essay responding to the following prompt: “You can’t label people, but you can label products,” as well as design their own label related to their essay that belongs on a product, but not a person. Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current undergraduate and graduate students who are U.S. citizens. Applicants must create a 5-minute unboxing video of their life that showcases their originality and unique personality, as well as provide a 250-word biography with their application video. This scholarship is available to students enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student in an accredited four-year or two-year institution in the U.S. or U.S. territories. This scholarship is available to students both in the U.S. and abroad. Applicants to this scholarship must be enrolled in high school, university, or college as a full-time student. Must submit a 750-word essay answering the following questions:
- What is the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving?
- What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving?
- Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly?
- What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road?
Minority/Women in STEM Scholarship // Bold.org

Any BIPOC and/or female high school senior or undergraduate who is a first-generation, low-income student interested in STEM may apply for this scholarship. Applicants must write a 400-600 word-essay answering the following prompt: “What are some challenges you've had to overcome while pursuing your education and how do you plan on making a positive impact on the world through your STEM education?”
Pursue Your Dream Scholarship // Ascent Funding

Applicants must submit a 30-90 second video explaining how they plan to use the money to pursue their dreams.
TMCF x Walmart Foundation HBCU First Generation Scholarship // Thurgood Marshall College Fund

First-generation students attending one of TMCF's 47 publicly-supported HBCUs or Predominantly Black Institutions are eligible for this scholarship. 61 scholars will be chosen as winners. All applicants must submit a 2-minute maximum video answering the following prompt: "What would it mean to you and your community to be the first person in your family to earn a college degree?"

This scholarship is available to high school seniors and current college students with financial need. Applicants must be working part or full-time in addition to being students in order to qualify for this scholarship. Applicants must write a 500-word maximum essay responding to one of the provided prompts as well as submit a link to a 2-minute video sharing your experience as a working student.

This scholarship is available to students in the greater Houston area who have a minimum GPA of 2.8. Applicants must write a 1,000 word essay answering the prompt: “Describe a current social, economic, or political issue of your choice and how it has influenced your life. What solutions do you propose to improve or resolve that issue, and -if applicable- how will your study of choice contribute to solving this problem?”
The Urban Scholarship Fund // Texas Association of Developing Colleges
Amount: Varies; between $700-$2,000
Deadline: July 15, 2022
This scholarship fund awards $700 to community college and technical college students, $1,000 to public four-year college/university students, and $2,000 to students at independent (private) 4-year colleges and universities. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and Texas residents. Must be able to demonstrate financial need.
