Scholarships are a great way to pay for college! If you are going to college in Texas we have compiled a great list of scholarships you may be eligible for (and don’t have to pay back!). Some of these scholarships require a separate application while others only ask you to file the FAFSA or TASFA so make sure to get that done ASAP! Need help? Terry Foundation Scholarship // Terry Foundation

This scholarship is funded by the Terry Foundation but awarded through multiple colleges and universities in Texas. Click here for the full list of schools that partner with the Terry Foundation to award scholarships. Students are only eligible if they graduated high school in Texas.

Animal Rescue Scholarship // Aulsbrook Law Firm

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: September 30, 2022

This scholarship will be awarded “to a caring individual who demonstrates their love for animals and a commitment to increasing animal welfare.” Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 and higher, and must write a 750 word essay that answers the following prompt: “Discuss your relationship with a rescue animal or volunteer animal organization and how it has impacted your life. How do you dedicate your time to helping animals and animal rescue organizations?” Applications and transcripts must be submitted to [email protected].

BEE, YOU Scholarship // Busy Bee's Virtual Assistance & Management, LLC

Amount: $1,500

Deadline: October 3, 2022

This scholarship is available to high school seniors and current college students with financial need. Applicants must be working part or full-time in addition to being students in order to qualify for this scholarship. Applicants must write a 500-word maximum essay responding to one of the provided prompts as well as submit a link to a 2-minute video sharing your experience as a working student.

TMCF x Walmart Foundation HBCU First Generation Scholarship // Thurgood Marshall College Fund

Amount: Up to $6,200

Deadline: October 10, 2022

First-generation students attending one of TMCF's 47 publicly-supported HBCUs or Predominantly Black Institutions are eligible for this scholarship. 61 scholars will be chosen as winners. All applicants must submit a 2-minute maximum video answering the following prompt: "What would it mean to you and your community to be the first person in your family to earn a college degree?"

Amarillo Area Foundation Scholarships // Amarillo Area Foundation

Amount: Varies

Deadline: February 10, 2023

Amarillo Area Foundation offers a variety of scholarships for different colleges, fields of study, and county of residence. Available to high school seniors and college students enrolled in the Texas Panhandle region. 

Flip Foundation Scholarships // Flip Foundation

Amount: Varies

Deadline: March 5, 2023

This scholarship is available to high school seniors and students currently enrolled at any college, university or trade school. Must have above a 2.5 GPA and be a U.S. citizen. Applicants must submit a project based on individual talent (writing, singing, video, etc.). Be sure to note that you have financial need on your application (if applicable), as that is heavily considered. 

Energize Your Education Scholarship // ElectricityPlans

Amount: $500

Deadline: May 1, 2023

Must be a higher school senior planning to attend a 2 or 4-year university after graduating, and must have a minimum of a 3.2 GPA.

ExxonMobil Engineering Scholarship // LULAC National Educational Service Centers

Amount: $2,000-$20,000

Deadline: September 9, 2022

This scholarship is available to Hispanic high school seniors who plan to pursue an engineering degree in Austin, Corpus Christi,Dallas, El Paso,Houston, and San Antonio.

Rodeo Enthusiast Scholarship // Rodeo Ticket

Amount: $500

Deadline: August 15, 2022

This scholarship is available to students who either grew up going to rodeos or went to one for the first time as an adult. Applicants must write a 700-1,500 word essay about the experience. Must include a photo of yourself with your essay submission. Scholarship available to students in all 50 states.

Callahan Law Firm Scholarship Program // The Callahan Law Firm

Amount: $1,500

Deadline: August 1, 2022

This scholarship is available to students in the greater Houston area who have a minimum GPA of 2.8. Applicants must write a 1,000 word essay answering the prompt: “Describe a current social, economic, or political issue of your choice and how it has influenced your life. What solutions do you propose to improve or resolve that issue, and -if applicable- how will your study of choice contribute to solving this problem?”

Hearts for Community Scholarship // Warrick Dunn Charities

Amount: $5,000

Deadline: July 31, 2022

This scholarship program provides awards to support students who are active volunteers in their community and are attending or will soon attend a post-secondary institution. Two letters of recommendation showing proof of volunteer experience and a 500-word essay required.

The Urban Scholarship Fund // Texas Association of Developing Colleges

Amount: Varies; between $700-$2,000

Deadline: July 12, 2022

This scholarship fund awards $700 to community college and technical college students, $1,000 to public four-year college/university students, and $2,000 to students at independent (private) 4-year colleges and universities. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and Texas residents. Must be able to demonstrate financial need.

Southwestern Regional Scholarship // Korean American Scholarship Foundation

Amount: $500-$5,000

Deadline: June 30, 2022

Full-time students who are of Korean descent are eligible for this scholarship. Students must be enrolled at a college or university in one of the designated Southwestern region states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas) during the 2022-2023 school year. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and can demonstrate need for financial assistance.

Minority Women in STEM Financial Need Scholarship //

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: June 30, 2022

This scholarship is for undergraduate BIPOC women at the University of Texas at Dallas who are pursuing careers in the STEM field. To apply, write about your career goals after college and how you plan to achieve them.

Scholarship // The VANROSS Foundation

Amount: $500

Deadline: June 30, 2022

Applicants must “demonstrate positive-impact involvement consistent with capacity and circumstances and/or significant improvement/success in scholarship and community involvement.” Must submit 3 letters of recommendation, transcript, FAFSA, and EFC to be considered.

Susan Howard Community Service Award //British American Foundation of Texas

Amount: $5,000

Deadline: March 31, 2022

Available to low-income students in Texas who have "demonstrated initiative and leadership skills through their dedication to benefitting their community.” Applicants must be working on a community service project or have done so within the past 12 months.

AWM Scholarship // Austin Alliance for Women in Media

Amount: $5,000

Deadline: March 7, 2022

This scholarship is available to students who have completed 60+ hours of college coursework by December 2021. Applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher, and must be enrolled as a full-time college student with a declared major in radio, television, film, journalism, etc. and intend to pursue a career in media.

Foundation 649 Scholarship // Foundation 649

Amount: $4,000 across 4 years

Deadline: March 1, 2022

This scholarship is available to students that identify as Asian American and/or Pacific Islander. Applicants must be enrolled in or attending an accredited university by Fall 2022.
