7 Science Websites You Need to Check Out

As schools transition back to online learning in response to the Omicron variant, there may be one subject that is difficult to do from home - science. From physics to biology, learning these topics can be challenging on your own, especially the hands-on learning components. To support your STEM learning, we put together this list of online resources to help you succeed at science from home! The sites below are free and provide a variety of instruction methods.

  1. Ck-12 is an interactive website available to everyone through a free account. The site includes simulations, videos, real world examples, and study guides for a variety of subjects. Subjects covered: biology, chemistry, earth science, life science, physics, physical science
  2. Codeacademy offers free coding classes in 12 different programming languages. In the website you choose what you want to learn, practice through projects and instruction, and then get instant feedback from the site. Subjects covered: computer science, programming, data science
  3. PhEt is a free collection of interactive math and science simulations from the University of Colorado Boulder. Using simulations students can visualize scientific topics, changing parameters to observe impact, and even make their own measurements and conclusions. Subjects covered: biology, chemistry, earth science, physics


  1. College Board AP - Videos include live and prerecorded AP classes and review sessions taught by the country’s best AP teachers. Use these videos to study for the upcoming May AP exams! Subjects covered: All AP science courses
  2. Crash Course - With over 10 million subscribers, Crash Course creates a series of instructional videos on each subject using a blend of humor and educational contents. Subjects covered: anatomy and physiology, astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, ecology, engineering, history of science, organic chemistry (launching soon)
  3. Physics Girl - Physics Girl, aka Dianna Cowern, creates videos to breakdown and explain physical phenomena. She also includes videos on new discoveries, demonstrations, and experiments you can do at home. Subjects covered: astronomy, meteorology, physics, physical science
  4. Science Channel - Science Channel - yes the TV station! - also has a YouTube channel, creating videos to explain scientific topics using recent science news, exploration techniques, and everyday interactions. Subjects covered: anatomy and physiology, astronomy, biology, botany, chemistry, earth science, ecology, engineering, life science, meteorology, oceanography, physics, physical science, zoology
