Meet Our Team

We're a small but strong team – working together to create innovative initiatives to inspire and engage young people as they become more engaged in their education. Get to know our  board members and learn more about the people behind Get Schooled! 

Akeela Maxwell is the Assistant Manager of Education Programs and Events at Get schooled. Akeela is a born and raised New Yorker with Caribbean roots. She is also a recent graduate from Brooklyn College with a Bachelor's in Psychology and Youth Studies. Before Get Schooled,Akeela worked with the Department of Education as an Assistant Teacher with all ages. Besides her love for kids she has a love for cooking, she is addicted to the cooking network, loves to hang with her family/friends and is always looking for a new adventure that Get Schooled has in store for her :)!!

Ashley Pugh  is the Assistant Manager of Digital Content team at Get Schooled. Ashley earned her masters degree in Interactive Media at the age of 22 and has made it her goal to aid in making sure our videos and graphics are fresh, engaging and impactful. When she's not brainstorming creative ideas with Nourisha or collaborating on projects with Cyril, Ashley enjoys making her coworkers laugh and eating Swedish fish. Outside of the Get Schooled universe, you'll most likely find Ashley shopping for Timberlands, binge watching Netflix, or singing obnoxiously in her car. 

David Childers is the Assistant Manager of College Access Content and Guidance at Get Schooled. He graduated from DePaul University in Chicago with a double degree in English and philosophy. He works as a mentor and college coach for students as they navigate high school academics and life post-grad. He also works to help students overcome common obstacles to college enrollment, such as FAFSA completion, obtaining financial aid and scholarships, and more through texting and content.  

David Nguyen is the Director of Digital Engagement at the Get Schooled Foundation. David makes sure our audience on social media is updated and engaged with the most current Get Schooled initiatives. Being part of Get Schooled is a rewarding opportunity to help inspire youth through technology and sizzle. David’s a University of Washington graduate with a business degree in Marketing and Accounting, and has also earned his CPA and Social Media certification. In his spare time, he enjoys hanging out with his friends, eating out, and watching sports (Go Seahawks)! 

Daylee Baker is the Manager for Digital  Engagement and Communications at Get Schooled. She creates engaging social media posts and connects with students through text and snapchat. She graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in communication, a minor in diversity,  and a sales certificate. She is excited to help increase high school graduates, get more students in higher education, and provide support to students along the way. When Daylee isn’t composing tweets you can find with friends & family, signing up to run 5ks and cheering on the huskies & hawks!

Inesha Williams is the Assistant Manager of Strategic Partnerships. She was born and raised in Houston, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and visual arts. In her free time she enjoys painting, black and white photography, and experimenting with mixed media projects. Being a part of the Get Schooled team has been amazing and she looks forward to helping more students pursue their education.

Ivana Mladenovic is the Senior Manager of Education Programs at the Get Schooled Foundation in which she manages our national Challenges, helps build and maintain relationships with educators and partners, identifies opportunities for new alliances and develops strategies for engaging educators across the country in Get Schooled’s initiatives. Ivana grew up in California and just recently moved to New York City. She has her Master’s degree in school counseling with a credential in pupil personnel services and has been in the field of education for several years. In her spare time she loves to explore new places, travel abroad and eat good food.

Lisa Lane is the Get Schooled Foundation office administrator. She keeps our office stocked, our bills paid and coordinates materials and support with Get Schooled-affiliated schools around the country. Lisa has a BA from the University of Washington and a TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certificate from Seattle University. She believes learning is everywhere and can be fun! Much of her time away from work is spent with kid related activities and remembering what it was like to be a kid! Favorite things: books, toys, museums, jewelry, music, languages.

Marie Groark is the Executive Director of the Get Schooled Foundation. She helps to set strategy and lead our work with key partners. Marie has always loved to learn and has always loved pop culture. Get Schooled combines her passion for the power of a great education with her affection for logging hours in front of a computer or television screen. Marie began her career as a high school social studies teacher in New York City. She worked as a management consultant advising public and private sector clients. Prior to joining Get Schooled, she was a senior program officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Marie is a mom of three great kids, and active in her children’s school, girl scouts, and community.

Nourisha Wells is the Senior Director of Digital Strategy and Technology at Get Schooled. She makes sure our digital platform (website and apps) is running smoothly and up-to-date with the latest tools, resources, and information to help students be the rock stars we know them to be. Nourisha has more than 15 years experience in digital marketing and communications with a continued emphasis on the role of technology in achieving educational outcomes. She considers joining the Get Schooled team a masterful work of fate as her entire career has revolved around education in some form or fashion. In fact, she secretly believes education is stalking her, but that's another story. Nourisha is very happy to combine her love of education; obsession with technology and the Internets; and heavy consumption of pop culture into the perfect way to spend her weekdays. And she hopes to help change the landscape of public education in the process! In her free time she is an active blogger, speaker, mentor, gardener, sports fan (Go Chiefs, Go Royals), and lover of all things superhero, video and board gaming, science fiction, and fantasy.
