Last updated June 23, 2020

When you apply to college, there are a ton of steps, including getting the documents you need from your parents and high school. Many students are unaware of what they may need and how to gather their documentation. These #WeBelongInCollege stories are from students who struggled to apply for financial aid because of how difficult it was for them to obtain the application documentation that was required.

Enoch’s #WeBelongInCollege Story About Applying

Enoch lived with his sister because his mom was homeless. Because his mom was his legal guardian, he needed her financial documents to apply for financial aid. Hear how he continually struggled and then persevered through all of these barriers.

Julian’s #WeBelongInCollege Story

Julian struggled to get the documents he needed to apply for financial aid. He was determined to persevere through the belief that he belonged in college even though some of his family members thought otherwise.

Frank’s #WeBelongInCollege Story

When Frank’s mother was struggling with mental illness, he sought out the support he needed. When it came time to apply to college, a new challenge arose. He no longer lived in the same state as his mom, but still needed to get her financial documents because she was still his legal guardian.

Karen’s #Webelongincollege story

Because of her immigration status, Karen doesn’t qualify for federal financial aid. But that was not going to stop her. She figured out how to work full-time to pay for college while attending college part-time and taking night classes. However, she still needed a document to qualify for in-state tuition and when she couldn’t get that document, she started to question if she belonged in college.
