Victoria’s #WeBelongInCollege Story

Victoria was already nervous about taking the English A.P. exam at her school’s library. And that was before she arrived and encountered what so many students of color experience on a regular basis; straight up racism. Listen to this powerful story about how she was almost kept from taking the exam. Even though Victoria knows there are racist people out there who are going to continue to try to deprive her of the education she deserves, she knows she belongs in college!

Joan’s #WeBelongInCollege Story

Joan knows too many students of color who don’t feel that they belong in college because “they can’t stand the environment on campus.” In her story, she asks the question that we should all be asking: how are we going to transform higher education so that ALL students will feel like they belong?

Enoch’s #WeBelongInCollege Story

Enoch has found it hard to focus on school lately because he is sickened to live in a world that oppresses people based on the color of their skin. In his story, he shares how this has made him question whether he belongs in college and how for the first time ever, it feels like some major changes are possible, including in his college.

Karoline’s #WeBelongInCollege Story

In Karoline’s story, she talks about her experience attending a predominantly white institution and her concerns that her white peers will continue to remain silent during conversations about race when classes resume. She has decided that not only will she not let their silence make her question if  she belongs, "we are not going to let their silence extinguish the power in our voices."
