Best Websites to Explore Careers

Last updated February 28, 2020

Do you feel undecided about your future career? Maybe you don’t know where to start? Take a  look at the following places to explore different careers:

Career One Stop gives great occupational snapshots. If you search for a career, the site returns back a page with: a job description, a video sample of what you do on the job, the projected employment for your state, typical wages, what type of education you need, and other resources to explore the career.

If you aren’t sure about what you want to do Career One Stop has an  Interest Assessment that asks you 30 questions about what you like to do and what you don’t like to do. At the end of the assessment, you will receive a list of occupations that match your interests. You can also see a breakdown of your interest areas, which can be broken down into: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional.

There is also a  Skills Matcher Assessment with 40 questions about your skill level in a particular task. At the end of this assessment, you will get a list of occupations that best fit your skill level. You can also see which skills of yours rated the highest, next highest and so on. You can even use this list on your resume!

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is a Government department that keeps track of how occupational fields are doing in the U.S. The data they provide in their Occupational Outlook Handbook is backed by data across the U.S. The website is organized by industry category to make it easy to find what you need to learn more about career options.

You will find information on the job, what the work environment is like, the median annual wage for that specific occupation, and the job outlook. BLS will also give you a list of similar occupations. The site is a great way to see how different occupations are doing around the U.S.
