Can You Apply To College Without A Computer?
Last updated March 10, 2023
All colleges and universities want you to complete your applications online, but what do you do if you don’t have a computer at home? Here are some ideas!
Do you have a friend or family member that will loan you their laptop or computer?
When it comes to applying to college, your family and friends definitely want to see you succeed. Share with them your challenges with completing your college applications because you don't have a computer. They are sure to offer up their computer or laptop to help you complete those applications!
Write down the information you’ll need on a college application – this is especially handy when writing an essay
Even if you can't sit down at the computer to complete your application, you can still make progress on it. Start by writing down the various questions you need to answer so you can begin working on them on paper. Yes, pen and paper still come in handy! This is a great way to help you get your thoughts together for a solid application. Once you've written it all out, it won't take you as long to actually complete your application once you do get to an available computer.
Check the local public library
The library is a great place to go when it comes to completing your college applications! Check out your local library to see what the requirements are for reserving a computer. You'll probably need a library card and a flashdrive to save your information once you've completed your application. An added bonus is the librarian on hand to help you with any questions you might have about using the computer or completing your application!
Call the college that you are applying to and see if they have an option for completing a paper application
It never hurts to ask! Contact the schools you hope to apply to and see if they have alternative options for submitting an application. They might even have additional suggestions for where you can go to complete your application if a paper application isn't possible, such as local alumni or partner organizations. You never know until you ask, so ask!
