In the Spring of 2017, Get Schooled and the Detroit College Access Network (DCAN) teamed up to create Get Schooled Detroit, a one-stop digital resource for students in Detroit with all the information they need for college.

On October 30, 2017, we launched our first ever Detroit College Challenge sponsored by General Motors. The Challenge is specifically tailored to students in Detroit encouraging them to learn about the Detroit Promise, requirements for Michigan public universities and community colleges, financial aid opportunities, college planning, SAT/ACT prep, and access to a live counselor on our text line to ask questions about college or life after high school. Our pilot program in Detroit included 19 schools in the Detroit Metro area reaching 12,568 students.

Congratulations to Voyageur College Preparatory for being the top point earner in the Detroit College Challenge. As a result, Voyageur has earned a $2,500 grant that they will use for scholarships and College Decision Day.

For the past several months Voyageur College Preparatory has put in time and effort to stay at the top of the leaderboard holding the top spot throughout the duration of the Challenge. They used their Student Ambassadors to rally and to motivate their classmates to participate. Every student in the school got involved in the Challenge.

“It has enhanced the culture of the students,” said Voyageur Counselor, Rayven McMurray. “Underclassman are more comfortable talking to seniors about college and their experiences in high school.”
