What Does It Mean To Unlock The Box?

Last year, Get Schooled and its partners made more than $200,000 grants to high schools around the country.

Every school that signs up for the Get Schooled College Challenge has a chance to “unlock the box” or earn a $500 grant to their school to spend in any way their staff and students choose to. Last year, Get Schooled and its partners made more than $200,000 grants to high schools around the country. Schools told us they spent their grant on a range of activities, including:

  1. Scholarships
  2. Graduation Activities
  3. College Counseling Office
  4. Student activities (dance/pizza party, senior spirit week)
  5. Student incentives (good behavior, attendance, testing)

No matter how the schools use their funds, it's clear student success is at the heart of those decisions. In fact, here are a few examples of actual programs funded by the Unlock the Box grants!

The students went to see the play To Kill A Mockingbird in Tulsa which was a great opportunity for the students from a rural community to go to a large city and see a play which none of them would ever have had the opportunity to do without the grant.

This was used to stock our food pantry. We use this to feed hungry kids on the weekend. :)

The money was used to help provide scholarships for juniors and seniors who are low income to take Concurrent Credit College classes. We were able to help 4 students get college credit with Graduate for Mas Challenge money. I am very grateful for this program!
