Detroit, The D, Motor City – no matter what you call it, there is no denying the impact the city of Detroit has had on the music industry. Home to such greats as Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Madonna, Kid Rock, Eminem and countless others, Detroit is the music city that keeps on giving.
Up next on the scene are musical trio, the Fameboyz. Get Schooled first met the Fameboyz at Central Collegiate Academy for the kick-off of the Metro Detroit Attendance Challenge. When the group took the stage, the crowd went wild! So, who are the Fameboyz?
“We are three individuals that incorporate high energy and multiple genres of music to bring the fun back to music,” said one group member. “We’re not violent or provocative, so we wanted to let young people know they can express themselves without being negative.”
Part of bringing the fun is pursuing their dream of performing the kind of music they love. When we caught up with Diamante, Ty and Pat for an interview, they were taking a break from choreography practice. We had a great time chatting with the guys and wanted to introduce them to our Get Schooled network!
Get Schooled: How did you get started as a group?
FameBoy Diamante: Ty and I had a group already and we brought in Pat.
FameBoy Pat: I just came up to the studio to check them out and liked what they were about, so I showed them what I could do and we’ve been together as the FameBoyz for about four months.
Get Schooled: How do you balance your education and budding music career?
FameBoy Pat: I’m a senior at Central Collegiate Academy. I would be lying to say it’s not a challenge, but education is first. Without education you’re life wouldn’t be hot in the future. Music is second but I go just as hard in the studio as I do in the classroom.
FameBoy Ty: I’m taking classes in sound engineering so we don’t have to go outside our group when we’re making music.
FameBoy Diamante: I’m furthering my education and just finished my first semester of college.
Get Schooled: What advice do you have for your peers about getting a good education?
Fameboyz: We’ll say it again, if you don’t have education your life won’t be as hot. If you work hard now in school, you live easier in the future.
Get Schooled: Who inspires you to keep going everyday despite the challenges and set backs of the music industry?
Fameboy Ty: I come from a background where I didn’t know who my real family was. So, I’ve been doing what I said I was gonna do since I was young. To keep going is what I know.
Fameboy Pat and Diamante: The fans also motivate us to keep going. The way they support us and rock with us helps us keep going. We refuse to disappoint them.
Get Schooled: So, what do you want to tell your fans and students across the country about pursuing their dreams?
Fameboy Manager Scout: If you don’t have hope and big dreams you’ll end up working for someone who does.
Fameboy Pat: I feel like everyone has that individual personality inside that’s dying to get out. If you have a dream you should go after it. Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t do it!
Fameboy Ty: Faith is dead without works. If you don’t do something, your vision won’t come to pass.
Fameboy Diamente: If you never try you always end up wondering “what if” in the end.
Get Schooled: How did you learn about Get Schooled?
Fameboyz: We heard about Get Schooled at the Attendance Challenge kick-off and decided we want to do whatever we can to help kids graduate from high school. We had to get involved. Swag!
We definitely enjoyed catching up with the Fameboyz! Be sure to check out their video Fameboy Anthem below and head over to their website to learn more about them!
