“Education is a self-enlightening process. It is an important component of life. Education gives us the knowledge of the world around us.
I am so happy to be part of Get Schooled, a program that understands that education arms us with an insight to look at our lives and learn from every experience. And at the end of it all, education is the backbone of society.”
You can call Chris “Ludacris” Bridges a number of things. Hip-hop superstar. Actor. Entrepreneur. Philanthropist. Restaurateur. Pitchman. Online visionary. Columnist. All of these labels are accurate, but Ludacris has shown that he has no intention of slowing down. With all that he has accomplished in his career, Ludacris is best known by the music. A three-time Grammy award winner, Ludacris has sold over 26 million albums worldwide and along with his managers Chaka Zulu and Jeff Dixon, is the co-founder of the highly successfully Disturbing tha Peace (DTP) record company. His acting career also remains on an enviable trajectory. After star-making appearances on the NBC drama “Law and Order SVU,” Chris moved on to major motion pictures including the Oscar-winning CRASH and the independent film sensation HUSTLE & FLOW. The winner of a Screen Actors Guild Award and the Critic’s Choice Award, Chris has become one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood. Currently filming the latest installment of the highly successful FAST AND THE FURIOUS series, Chris has truly become a well-rounded entertainer and performer.
Beyond music and film, Ludacris partnered with Chef Chris Yeo to open Straits Restaurant, a Thai/Singaporean cuisine located in the heart of downtown Atlanta that has consistently been voted one of the city’s favorites, and launched WeMix.com, a social networking site aimed at showcasing and developing artists. With Ludacris’ visibility in a variety of media at unprecedented levels, it’s no wonder major corporations enlist Ludacris as an endorser.
Given his phenomenal success, Ludacris is keenly aware that others are less fortunate. That’s why his Ludacris Foundation is in its ninth year of operation. Thus far, the non-profit organization has given more than $1 million to organizations that help out underprivileged children. The Foundation helps kids to help themselves by using music and the arts to inspire them to develop goals and work to achieve them. The Foundation has also spearheaded college tours where Ludacris spoke to students about safe sex and HIV/AIDS awareness. Always one to lend a helping hand, Ludacris, along with fellow rapper T.I., raised over $100,000 for Atlanta Flood Victims. In 2009 during Ludacris’ annual LudaDay weekend he gave away more than 20 cars to those in the Atlanta metro area who were affected by the current recession and during the 2010 LudaDay weekend festivities while giving back, The Ludacris Foundation provided book scholarships to Morehouse College students, and a charitable donation to Mayor Kasim Reed’s Centers for Hope initiative, re-building recreational centers throughout the city of Atlanta.
At Get Schooled, we are thrilled to have Ludacris as a Celebrity Education Ambassador. As part of the Get Schooled National Challenge and Tour, Ludacris surprised 1400 high school students at George Washington High School in Denver, Colorado with a concert and words of encouragement. The event was the FINAL stop on the Get Schooled National Challenge and Tour – a multi-city tour which engaged students in an effort to help improve high school graduation rates and ultimately raise college completion rates.
