Academic Motivation During the Summer
Last updated June 29, 2021
You’ve been through a lot these past two school years - the pandemic, transitioning to online school, and missing out on fun social events - just to name a few. We understand how disappointing and difficult it all has been, but it’s important to keep your eye on the prize! Staying on top of your grades, academic responsibilities, and goals is more important than ever now that things slowly begin to return to normal. Here are some tips to stay academically motivated this summer to start school this fall with your best foot forward.
Keep your goals in mind
Goal setting apps
Summer is a great time to take stock of your academic, personal, and professional goals! When you have clear goals in mind, planning for the future can be much simpler. Try downloading free goal-setting apps on your phone or using a journal to begin!
Bullet journal
Looking for a simple way to plan your summer goals and activities? Why not try out a bullet journal? Bullet journals are great for organizing daily habits, homework, reading, or writing about your goals! Not only are you more likely to accomplish your goals if you’ve written them down, it will feel great to slowly cross things off your list!
Build confidence
Confidence isn’t built overnight! It can take some time to believe in yourself and abilities. Our tips on building self-confidence can give you the tools to recognize your strengths and continue building on them.
Get ready to succeed
Plan for a productive day
Make productivity a habit! Our guide on planning for a productive day walks you through how to make the most of your day, every day. Having a routine to stick to will set you up for success!
Set up your study space
Take some time this summer to set up a space for yourself to study and do homework once school starts. Once you designate your space, you can spend the rest of the summer getting it set up with pictures, supplies, and a calendar to make it feel comfortable and personal to you!
Practice self-care
You can’t pour from an empty cup! Make sure you’re taking some time for yourself to practice self-care - we recommend meditating, exercising, and journaling. Self-care can look different for high school and college students, though, so do what feels best for you!
Find support
You never have to go it alone. Surrounding yourself with people who uplift and support you on your academic journey is an important key to success. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it - your friends, family, and teachers all want you to succeed. Searching for more support? There are plenty of virtual communities you can join from home!
