Where to Find Remote Internships
Last updated March 2, 2022
Searching for internships can take a lot of work, especially during a pandemic, when there might not be as many in-person opportunities available. The great news is that many companies are offering remote internships that you can do from the comfort of your home or dorm room! But where do you go to search for internships and how do you know which companies offer remote opportunities? We’ve got you covered. Here are a few great places you can start your remote internship search.
Internships.com is a great internship platform to help you search for remote and in-person opportunities. Just tell them what type of internship you are looking for (content creator, marketing, human resources, business, etc.) and drop in your zip code to see what internships are available near you. You can even filter to see which internships are paid versus unpaid. Their database is updated regularly, so keep your eyes open for remote internships that sound interesting to you. Their platform is free to use and there's no need to sign up unless you would like to bookmark the internships you like.
Handshake is one of the most popular platforms for college students to search for job opportunities, but did you know they offer internship opportunities as well (both in-person and remote)? What makes Handshake unique is that you can connect directly with companies to find an internship or job, receive messages from employers, and connect with alumni from your school who work at a company you may be interested in. Handshake is a fully gated platform, which means you have to sign up first in order to see what job and internships are available. And though it is free to use, Handshake is exclusively for college students and recent college graduates, so you must have a college email address to sign up. Once you are in, complete your profile for personalized job and internship recommendations.
If you have a passion for making an impact in your community then Idealist is the perfect place to search for remote internships. Idealist is a job, internship, and volunteer platform that is exclusively for those interested in the nonprofit and social services sector. No sign up is required, but you have the option to create a free profile so you can save the opportunities you like. When you are ready to search for internships, just type in your city and browse the internships in your area.
WayUp is a job and internship platform for college students and recent grads to search for job and internship opportunities, access career advice, and connect directly with top employers. Similarly to Handshake, WayUp is a gated platform, so you must register and complete a profile before viewing internship and job opportunities. Having a college email address is NOT a requirement, so anyon can sign up. Once your profile is complete, you will have access to a dashboard with jobs & internships, where you’ll see opportunities that match your profile.
Your school’s career center
If you're a college student, be sure to check out your campus career center. In addition to helping you with fine-tuning your resume and helping you prepare for job interviews, many college career centers have great online job and internship boards where you can search for opportunities based on your major or area of interests. Additionally, career centers have relationships with employers and often know of internship and job opportunities that may be available exclusively for students at your school. It’s a free resource to tap into, so be sure to head to your school's career center ASAP!
