Safia's #WeBelongInCollege Story

Last updated February 27, 2021

Safia never felt like she belonged in any of the spaces she was in, often being the only Black person in school and on sports teams. That made it hard for her to envision herself in college, once again isolated. She eventually realized she wanted to be a diversity specialist to give other Black women and people of color opportunities to succeed.

Once in college, campus organizations made her feel less alone and she saw that many other students felt the same way. Safia believes all college students should access the networks on their campuses when feeling lonely. Because of these communities on her campus, she’s now found her place.

Safia was a recipient of a $1,000 #WeBelongInCollege Scholarship. Meet the other #WeBelongInCollege Scholarship Winners!
