5 Tips To Improve Your Studying [Video]

Last updated August 17, 2023

Studying is an essential part of being a college student. Throughout your college career, you will spend a lot of time studying, so it’s important to learn some tips and tricks to make studying easier and more effective. Here are some tips to improve your studying!

Before class

Complete all of your assigned readings before you get to class, ensuring that you’re able to explain concepts and ideas in your own words. Highlight important information, definitions, and ideas, and remember to write down any questions you have for your professor.

In class

Take notes and use shorthand abbreviations to help you write faster. Based on your prep work the day before, add comments from the class discussion.

After class

Make a study guide and condense your notes using your own words. Transform important information into other forms to review, like tables, illustrations, etc.

Review

Take the time to review your study guide for 30 minutes every day to help you retain information, and quiz yourself after to reinforce your learning!

Prep for exams

Pencil in your test dates into your calendar or planner. Decide what, when, and how you will study each day and block out the time to study, and stick to your plan. Studying over days instead of cramming will be better in the long run!
