How To Stay Flexible At Work [Video]

Last updated March 1, 2021

Learning how to be flexible and adapt to changes on the job will not only make you a more valuable asset to your company, but also demonstrates your ability to shift focus when necessary – something most employers look for in potential candidates! Here are tips for being flexible at work.

Keep a to-do list

For each assignment, make a little note. Cross tasks off as you complete them. Organize according to priority!

Ask clarifying questions!

Confused about an assignment? Ask questions like, "When does this need to be completed by?", or "Does this look like what you wanted?" as you make progress!

Prioritize your tasks

Track deadlines and urgency! If you have multiple assignments, weigh which ones are more important and focus on those!

Take breaks!

Ergonomics experts recommend getting up from a desk at least once very hour. If you work standing up, be sure to be firm about taking your daily breaks + meals.

Be open minded and positive

Mistakes aren't failure! Learn from them, be open to feedback, and keep smiling. It's just a job at the end of the day.

Stay calm

Deep breaths! Avoid panicking during stressful or intense moments at work, and instead focus on the present and the work in front of you.
