7 Healthy Eating Habits To Adopt

Last updated January 7, 2020

Healthy eating can be hard at first. Read these easy tips and you'll be on your way to a healthy you!

Eat a colorful plate of food.

Try to have a variety of food groups on your plate. This will keep your taste buds stimulated and adding color with vegies and fruit will help you get different nutrients and vitamins.

Choose the smaller size option.

We tend to overeat when we're busy and stressed. Instead of reaching for the larger size option, request a smaller plate. If you find the bigger size option more cost effective, try setting aside half of the serving for later.

Eat slower and not in front of a screen.

The more chewing you do helps breakdown the food and the slower rate will help bring the focus back onto eating and feeling full. Taking away the screen will also help you pay attention to what you're putting into your body.

Take a closer look at the ingredients and servings.

A lot of prepackaged foods have suggested serving sizes as half of the actual package. Look at the nutritional facts and figure out how much salt and sugar you are consuming.

Don't get to the point of starving.

We've all been there, we're at the grocery store and we fill our cart of everything in sight. Don't buy food on an empty stomach! Try to have healthy snacks on hand that you can munch on before ordering a 3-course meal for two...for yourself.

Drink water.

It's good to be hydrated! Your mind and body will thank you. If you're feeling hungry, drinking a cup of water will make your stomach feel fuller until you can get some (healthy) food.

Learn to cook and prep your meals.

There's great satisfaction from doing the hard work to make your meals. You'll learn and improve a new skill and prepping food ahead of time will stop impulsive eating.
