Stick To Your Budget

Think of managing your budget like managing your social commitments. You wouldn’t make plans to be in two places at once, right? And you probably prioritize going to the events or activities that are the most important to you. With budgeting, you shouldn’t plan to spend money without making sure you’ve covered all your financial obligations. You prioritize what to spend money on now and what can wait until later.

Creating a budget may sound scary but it doesn’t have to be. It’ll require dedication and at times, reserve, but once you get the hang of it you’ll be managing your money successfully in no time.

1. Track your budget

Create an excel spreadsheet with two columns or download an app that will track your spending habits for you.

2. Make a list

List out all of your bills. For expenses that can change month to month, like groceries, estimate what you spend on average.

3. Determine your income

Add up what you make each month from every source of income you have. The goal is for your income to be more than your monthly expenses!

4. Balance your budget

Categorize all of your expenses and see which areas are using up most of your money each month. Adjust your budget as needed.

5. Stick to your budget

What good is going through all the work of creating a new budget, if you choose to ignore your financial boundaries?!
