Get to know about our week 4 Get Schooled Student of the Week winner!
As a student at the college-prep New Haven Academy, Kaitlin Pozarlik is definitely headed to college. She wants to be a preschool teacher and already has plans to start taking college courses during her junior year in high school. She knows how important education is for future success.
"You can't really get a good job without getting a good education, " said Kaitlin. "That should be motivation enough to do your best in school."
Sometimes knowing you need a good education isn't enough to keep you on track for success. That's where teachers come in. For Kaitlin, it is the motivation of her teachers that gets her through.
"At my school, we're like one big family. Without my teachers pushing me to do my work, I wouldn't try so hard," she said.
While Kaitlin is successful in the classroom, it's her combination of school and community service work that earned her the nomination for Get Schooled Student of the Week. She was nominated by Kristen Peravento, who had these words to say about Kaitlin:
"Kaitlin is an amazing inspiration in her school and in her community. She is taking advanced classes in school and works hard everyday. On top of her school work, she is planning an event to get the entire New Haven community aware of violence and more specifically domestic violence. She has planned a benefit concert to raise money and awareness, and is planning musical training so local bands and musicians can get together to write music on the topic of domestic violence."
This community service project is part of one of her extra curricular activities. With the Future Project, students are tasked with planning a major project that will change their community. Kaitlin chose domestic violece because of an annual event she does with her family.
"My family goes to a candle light vigil for domestic violence each year. I dediced I should do something to educate people about domestic violence and raise money for shelters and the people who need it," she said.
Although the Student of the Week award was well deserved, Kaitlin admitted she was shocked to be selected. "I was surprised I won because I don't win much."
The team at Get Schooled is happy to hand Kaitlin this win. Congratulations on being the Get Schooled Student of the Week. Both Kaitlin and Kristen will receive an Amazon gift card.
