Like most students his age, Kwantavious Edwards enjoys hanging with his friends. It's what he does while he's in school that sets him a part. As a high school junior at East High School in Memphis, Tenn., Kwantavious is on the road to success in college and beyond.
"Chemistry is my favorite subject. I made up my mind when I first started high school that I was going to be a scientist," said Kwantavious. "My plan is to take as much science as I can so I can go to college prepared to become a marine biologist."
He admits to being a little nervous about chemistry in the beginning, but once he caught on, he was able to excell enough to tutor other students!
"I feel like without an education there's no other way to go," he said. "I want to be successful but without an education I don't think that's possible."
He shares his message of the importance of education with his fellow students, instructing them to get as much education as possible because you can never learn too much.
Kwantavious is a leader inside and outside the classroom. He is a member of the band, runs track and serves on the peace jam club, an anti-bullying club dedicated to bringing peace to his high school. His academic and extra curricular activites lead classmate, Shederrica Holmes, to nominate Kwantavious for the Student of the Week.
"Kwantavious is an intelligent and positive young man," said Shederrica. "He motivates and encourages everyone when they aren't doing so well. He has done numerous community service projects and doesn't mind helping out the less fortunate."
Although he makes a habit of helping his classmates when he can, Kwantavious was very surprised to be selected as the Get Schooled Student of the Week.
"I couldn't believe I won, but I felt very proud," he said.
We are also very proud of Kwantavious and congratulate him as the third Get Schooled Student of the Week! Both Kwantavious and Shederrica won amazon gift cards.
